Castillo Pless, Polonia

The contribution in climactic protection and of security was an essential requirement in the total rehabilitation of the castle.

State of the work

“Flamenco” windows in a Renaissance style with a type of “boca de lobo” (wolf’s mouth.)
Very distinct ironworks with a special emphasis on the invisible crosspieces.
Windows whose glassware style is “schliereng.”

Diagnosis

Rehabilitation of part of the original windows and fabrication of new windows, making them an exact reproduction of the original ones and applying the existing ironworks and coatings. Because this is an isolated building and of temporary occupation by the owners, inexistent up-to-date security measures had to be incorporated.

Solutionpuerta principal

Once the exhaustive study about the state of the windows had been carried out, it was diagnosed that only the ones on the ground floor were suitable to have the climactic and security protection measures integrated.

New windows were fabricated for the remaining floors, true replicas of the original models, but the climactic and security protection measures incorporated. On the first and second floors the original glassware was maintained, even though some were broken and were replaced by others of the same time period, identical to the previous ones.

For the original windows on the ground floor (the ones on the second level,) the solution of applying “case” windows was adopted, and they were fabricated adapting them to the profiles of the original ones.

The windows on the first, second, and third floor were fabricated as an exact reproduction of the original windows.

The pointers, chains and handles of the windows were not fabricated again; others that were very similar and existing in stock in the current market were placed instead. The security glassware had incorporated to it alarm and closure sensors (closure: pre-alarm, or: closing or blocking.)

The windows of the first, second, and last floors of the building were integrated to the original coatings, maintaining this way their materials of origin.
For the remaining floors of the building, new windows had to be installed to be able to satisfy the security and climactic protection requests.
